How this works
Community Suggestions are Marton's way of speaking directly to the council. Submit an idea to improve the town, then townsfolk vote it up or down. Once an idea has been screened by enough locals through open polling, it's escalated to the council to be tabled for a formal vote at the next meeting.
The stop is currently an eyesore, Commuters' on the overlander can't even tell what town they are in because there is no sign. -It has the potential to act as a tourism drawcard with the ever-popular steam train weekends coming past and needing to fill up with water. -The trains are very popular and order food delivery from Halcombe? Why aren't Marton businesses taking advantage of this business? - Perhaps we can upgrade the existing structure and use the shelter as a weekend market for local growers/artists/sellers. -We need more life in the town, why not make this the feature that it deserves to be? It shouldn't cost much to spraypaint and turn the building into multiple bays for stallholders? Then add a Marton sign so that passersby know where they are. The town needs a launching pad to come together. This could easily be expanded in the future if the town decides to bring back services between palmerston and whanganui? Lets do one step at a time.
